MSM has also been found to be helpful as an anti-parasitic. Oregon Health Sciences University researchers have found that MSM has anti-parasitic properties against giardia. The research done on MSM - Nutritional Sulfur has shown it to be helpful in setting up an environment in the gut where Giarda does not like to multiply, so MSM must become a daily supplement to keep levels low.

Methylsulfonylmethane is found in very small amounts in most vegetables, fruits and grains, but it is easily lost due to its volatile nature. The heat and water processing of commercially prepared pet foods and horse/livestock feeds destroys methylsulfonylmethane. The animal's diet is likely to contain insignificant amounts unless it consists primarily of raw, fresh grain or forage.

We use MSM for natural effective relief of inflammation and pain issues. MSM has properties similar to aspirin, without the possible aspirin/ibuprofin and similar aspirin side effects. MSM is excellent for joint or muscle pain relief. We find it best to dose it 3x/day for optimum inflammation and pain relief. I personally take MSM on a day I plan on "killing myself" (you ALL know what I'm talking about here!!) - i.e., digging post holes, pouring concrete, putting up lots of fencing and a day or two afterwards to PREVENT feeling the aches and pains I would normally feel from the overwork.

Pure MSM is also an excellent natural solution for post surgical inflammation and pain. Make sure to keep an eye on your pet or animal as pure MSM can reduce pain too well causing the animal, pet, or person to over exert, so if you notice your pet or animal exercising too much after surgery, back off on the dose or remove it altogether, so they will settle down, feel the pain, and rest like they need to.

We have a 95 lb. female canine rescue who had a fatty tumor the size of a small lime on the inside of her thigh. It pulled the skin on her thigh so tight it needed to be removed as it was affecting her health - she quit eating and she is always a voracious eater. The mobile vet removed it, putting 6" of stitches to close it. That afternoon, I dosed her with Bentonite Clay (to remove toxins from the anesthesia), Life Cell Support (again, to further remove toxins from the anesthesia), Colloidal Silver (natural antibiotic) and MSM. DAILY ANIMED MSM DOSAGE
Directions for horses: Use 1 tablespoon (approximately .5 ounce) per 1000 lb. body weight morning and evening for 6 days, then 1 tablespoon per day. Amount and frequency may be varied as necessary or as directed by a veterinarian.
Directions for dogs: Use 1/8 of a teaspoon (approximately .02 ounce) per 30 lb. body weight morning and evening for 6 days, then 1/8 of a teaspoon per 30 lb. body weight per day. The large end of the enclosed scoop measures one tablespoon (approximately 1/2 ounce). The small end measures one teaspoon (approximately 1/8 ounce)

Signs of overdose are loose bowel movements, so like vitamin C, MSM can be dosed to bowel tolerance if desired.

Treating More Than One Pet?

Amber Glass Bottles ~ If you have more than one pet that you are treating, you might want to consider purchasing one or more amber glass 1/2 oz., 1 oz., or 4 oz. dropper bottles, so you can split up the tincture into a smaller bottle. That way there is less chance of product contamination.

In addition, when treating more than one pet, it may be necessary to assure sterile administration without carry over from pet to pet. This is very important when using Paxaid to treat more than one pet. The best way to assure this is to use the dropper only to transfer product to an individual sterile oral syringe, using a different syringe for each pet. (This method will also reduce the chances of product contamination.) Those syringes should be sterilized after each use. Each pet should have its own syringe that is not shared with another pet.

The use of a syringe containing measured drops from the dropper will also remove the risk of the animal biting the glass dropper.

These are terrific for storing dried herbs, tinctures, colloidal silver, etc. All are Boston rounds and have black plastic phenolic lids, unless noted. The misters are fabulous and deliver a very light and delicate mist. Excellent for misting the face or for animals who are shy of sprayers. If purchasing for use with Paxaid, syringe size needed is based on the weight of the puppy. We suggest two syringes, one for oral doses and one for enema doses (if not being given Sub Q fluids or on IV's, enemas are or may be necessary to prevent dehydration). Make sure to mark the enema syringe clearly, as you never want to accidentally use an enema syringe for an oral dose, even after it's been washed.

Puppies/kittens weighing under 3 pounds need 5 to 6 ml syringes. Animals weighing 3-10 pounds need 12 ml syringes. Puppies weighing 11-20 pounds need 20 ml syringes. Puppies weighing 21-40 pounds need 50 ml syringes. Puppies 41-50 pounds need 60 ml syringes.
